The Lord’s Prayer: A Paraphrase

This week, as part of our Wonderstruck bible study homework, we were to spend time paraphrasing The Lord’s Prayer in our own words. I love to paraphrase scripture, digging into the Greek and Hebrew definitions, and reflecting on what the verses mean to me. Here is what I came up with…

Our Creative Author and Loving Dad, who dwells in heaven, we declare Your Name holy and we dedicate ourselves to You.

May Your royal power arise and be established in our midst; may Your purposes (what pleases You) come to pass in this world, to the extent that it’s happening in the heavenly realms.

Jehovah-Jireh, reach down from on high and grant us our daily necessities (our manna, our bread of life) – Your faithful provision to meet our every need.

Remember the debt Your beloved Son paid on our behalf; we’ve been ransomed and redeemed! Remove the guilt of our sin from us, as far as the east is from the west. Remind us to do the same for others: keeping no record of their wrongs, covering over their shortcomings with Your unconditional love, treating them as if they had never sinned.

Thank You for being a light in our darkness, an anchor during life’s storms, and our victorious guide away from temptation. Draw us to Yourself, rescuing us from the enemy’s schemes.

You wear the Victor’s Crown; You have triumphed over the devil! Unmatched strength, miraculous power, and abundant ability are Yours. You outshine the stars with Your splendor and majesty; You are the Supreme Ruler for all eternity, exalted in absolute perfection. Surely, truly.
